Roughly translated from Spanish Chula Vista means “beautiful view”. Located in the South Bay region of San Diego County, California lying beween the foothills of the Jamul and San Ysidro Mountains (including Lower Otay Resevoir) and the San Diego Bay on its east & west extremes and the Sweetwater and Otay Rivers at its north and south extremes.
It is the largest geographic entity in the region, covering 52.1 square miles of which 49.6 square miles is land. The city maintains a stable economic base with tourism serving as the engine for business. There are many diverse notable attractions to satisfy the visitors to the area including many open space areas.
There is a large school structure in the community with 44 Elementary schools and 4 Private Colleges and 1 Community College. Effort is being made to acquire a California University campus as well.
The politics of the community are balanced with only slight majority lead by Democrats.
